Serbian Orthodox monastery of Studenica became the first monastery with its library as a full member of COBISS in November of 2016. COBISS cataloging enabled complete access, visibility and search of the fund which is of remarkable importance since the library is closed type by its nature.
Thus, an important step has been made toward organizing monastery’s library according to all relevant national and international digital library standards. Also, it clarified the status of general question regarding monastic libraries. The forthcoming cataloging and digitalization of fund of old and rare books collection will enable preserving and presenting some of Studenica’s legacy as a cultural patrimony of great importance under UNESCO.
